FLATPACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
WHAT WE WERE ASKED TO DO
WHAT WE WERE ASKED TO DO
We were tasked with creating hype and driving people to the show for opening day of Grand Designs Live, but without spending a whole lot of money in the process. The objective was simple: mass coverage. Broadcast, print, online, the lot.

HOW WE DID IT
HOW WE DID IT
We knew that Kevin McCloud, host of Grand Designs, loved a bit of flatpack - we'd even had him on This Morning previously to build some, which he did pretty quickly. It led us to ask, is there anyone in the country who could build flatpack quicker?
Cue the Flatpack World Championships, a multi-round speed assembly tournament that we hosted live on-stage immediately after the ribbon cutting on opening day of the show.
Hosted by Kevin himself, our competitors battled it out to win the golden Allen key, a specially made medal that Kevin unveiled live on Lorraine when he called for the public to nominate themself to take part.
As well as members of the public who reckoned themselves flatpack pros, we also brought in TV presenter and upcycler Max McMurdo (not good at flatpack) and the latest winner of The Apprentice, Dean Franklin (very good at flatpack) to add some star quality to proceedings.
We also arranged for a journalist from The Times to get stuck in, and despite being knocked out in the first round, he landed us print and online coverage in the national title.
Our eventual winner, Hayley from Wigan, was photographed for the media and we even set up an exclusive interview with The Sunday Mirror to discuss her big win.
